Five Things That Made Me Smile This Week #23
The end of the week is upon us, which means it’s time for a little bit of reflection. I started the week completely stuck in my own head and didn’t have the energy to socialise. Thankfully, the end of the week was much better and gave me a good few reasons to smile.
1) Wonder Woman
I went to see the highly-anticipated Wonder Woman film this week. Considering DC’s poor track record of late (looking at you, Suicide Squad), I was pleasantly surprised by this instalment in the franchise. While the film was pretty cheesy and overdramatic in parts, I would recommend going to see it if you’re (still) a fan of superhero movies. I will say, though, that I was disappointed by how little screen time Gal Gadot had on her own for being the first major female lead in the genre.
2) Date Night
Usually I would disguise my dates as a night out with a friend, but I figured there’s no harm in saying the word! I went to the Boozy Cow on Thursday night and discovered their macaroni waffle, which was criminally good. After a couple of cocktails there, we headed to Hoot the Redeemer for some more. A lovely evening all round.
3) Rob Zombie
I headed to Glasgow on Friday night to see the one and only Rob Zombie. I’ve only ever seen him once before, when he was touring with Marilyn Manson in 2012, so I was so excited to see him again… and he didn’t disappoint! The crowd were absolutely electric, feeding off the energy from Zombie and his incredible band. I couldn’t have asked for a better setlist either – undoubtedly one of the best gigs I’ve been to in ages.
4) Turadh Magazine
I woke up on Saturday to find not one, but two copies of Turadh magazine on my doorstep! I have two pieces featured in the magazine, which was created as part of the MSc Publishing course at Edinburgh Napier University (the course I studied two years ago). My beautiful friend April is doing the course this year and her team created the magazine from scratch. I’m in awe of the final product; it looks wonderful and I couldn’t be prouder to be a part of it.
I spent the weekend cleaning and packing up my flat for my big move. While the process itself didn’t make me smile at all (I was actually near tears at one point), it’s the reason behind it that makes me so excited. This time next week, I’ll be in my brand new flat! I can’t wait to sleep in my new bed for the first time and start the next chapter of my life.
