My Favourite ASMRtists
I’ve got a confession to make.
I’m an addict.
I’ve been trying to deny it, but I can’t sleep at night without my fix. I get irritated when I can’t access it. I even have my favourite suppliers.
Yup, I’m officially an ASMR addict.
Since discovering Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response about a year ago, I’ve been slowly hooked. Now, I don’t know what I ever did without it! It’s fair to say I watch at least one ASMR video a day, usually in bed to help me drift off to sleep. But, I also watch them to relax during the day or just to provide background noise when I’m doing other things. I’ve even listened to the odd video at work to clear my mind.
There are so many ASMRtists (as they’re affectionately known) on YouTube, it’s inevitable everyone will have their favourites. Whether you’re a full-blown addict like myself or just like to dabble, I wanted to share my go-to ASMRtists and some of my favourite videos with you. Hopefully, you’ll discover someone new to help you relax!
The Queen of ASMR, you’ll probably have heard of Maria. She has 1.4 million subscribers, making her one of the most popular ASMRtists on YouTube – and for good reason. She’s one of the most gentle and soft-spoken people you’ll find in the community with a caring aura about her that makes her videos so comforting. The Russian expat now lives in the US, but often uploads her videos in multiple languages to cater to more audiences. If you’re already a fan, you’ll understand these two words: Pink. Comb.
If you’re familiar with Maria, you’ll recognise Emma from one of her videos. It’s easy to see where she got her name from, as her beautiful red hair is enviable. With 540K subscribers, she’s definitely lesser-known, but still an extremely popular ASMRtist. I also find Emma to be caring and warm, with a calming voice that soothes me to sleep – she has a very motherly quality about her that makes her so appealing. I must have watched this video hundreds of times, but I’ve never made it to the end, as I always drift off!
Undoubtedly one of the most ambitious ASMRtists there is, ASMRMagic (I’ve never found out her real name) is the master of long videos. Her longest to date is over three hours! It’s little wonder why she’s earned 584K subscribers to date. She is great at mixing things up and experimenting with different sounds to discover new triggers. My favourite videos from ASMRMagic involve good old Bob the dummy head – he’s often covered in glitter and pampered in her videos. I am obsessed with the sound of scratching in this one, it gives me chills.
Sarah, or Karuna Satori as she’s better known, had quite a remarkable journey to ASMR. She’s a former drug addict who is still openly on methadone to aid her recovery. But, she also used ASMR to help her sleep and avoid cravings, before starting her own channel in 2014. Now with 378K subscribers, she’s built quite the following with her unique style. Karuna is one of the best at what is known as “personal attention” – basically making the viewer the centre of the video with face touching, brushing, massaging, and so on. She also loves roleplaying, so you’ll constantly meet different characters in her videos. She’s fantastic at making sounds too, like finger fluttering and tongue clicking, which are popular ASMR triggers.
Another lesser-known ASMRtist, Caroline has 284K subscribers on YouTube. Like ASMRMagic, she often uses a range of objects and props in her videos to find new sounds. She also tends to use the hilarious-looking ear microphones, which provide binaural sound to make the experience authentic for those listening with earphones. I actually don’t tend to watch ASMR with earphones in, even though it’s recommended, as I find it much more enjoyable without. I may not get as many tingles, but I still feel unbelievably relaxed when I watch it. I’m not overly fond of the mouth sounds and ear eating Caroline does (a bit too sexual for me!), but I enjoy a lot of the content she uploads.
Tingting is an adorable ASMRtist who usually puts out videos three times a week – that’s a lot of ASMR! This is probably why her videos tend to be shorter than the others, as she’s uploading more regularly for 320K subscribers. Her videos are varied and usually only spend a few moments on each trigger, but this quick style is effective for instant relaxation. It also means if you don’t like one of the triggers, she won’t be on it long. On the flipside, if you really enjoy something (like mic brushing in my case), it can be over way too soon!
Having only recently branched out into ASMR, Julia is a new addition to my favourite ASMRtists. Her channel is still very much a mix of content, but her ASMR videos are unreal. She’s uploaded several massage videos that just hypnotise me with sweeping hand movements and whispers. Watching her models doze off also has such a calming effect on me! Since expanding her content into the world of ASMR, Julia has hit 103K subscribers and will undoubtedly gain more if she keeps uploading such mesmerising videos.
So, there you have it! These are just some of the ASMRtists I watch frequently, but there are so many others I enjoy like Gibi ASMR, ASMR Glow, SophieMichelle ASMR… the list goes on! Let me know if you watch ASMR and if your favourite appeared – if not, who is your go-to for all things tingles?
Until next time,
